Western Growers is currently assisting with an economic impact study in conjunction with the new field fumigant regulations that went into effect January 25, 2008. The regulations limit fumigant emissions from May to October of each calendar year in the San Joaquin, Ventura, Sacramento Metro, South Coast and southeast desert regions by placing further definition on fumigation practices including prohibiting some high-emission methods and limiting applications to low-emission methods in some areas. The regulations also require a change in pesticide use reporting by requiring inclusion of the method used for field fumigant applications.
