In 1957, Western Growers Assurance Trust (WGAT) was established to provide Western Growers members with plans, options and prices for healthcare benefits that were unobtainable from commercial insurance.  Today, WGAT is the largest insurer of benefits for the agricultural industry.  More than 200 WGAT employees provide customer services, claims processing, bilingual representation, billing and administrative services to members.

WGAT is a non-profit organization.  While we are regulated under the Department of Labor and subject to the California Department of Insurance Regulations, we are self-administered by our members, for our members.  That we are self-governed by our own members is the vital difference between us and all the commercial insurance carriers.

HEALTH CARE PLANS.  Our healthcare plans are customized to meet the diverse needs of owners, managers, field workers and seasonal employees.  WGAT uses the Blue Cross of California and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona network of providers.  In addition, we offer a Mexico Panel, which provides access to healthcare in Mexico.

DENTAL PLANS. WGAT offers a wide variety of dental plans to enhance your employee benefit package including the Blue Cross Dental Network.

VISION SERVICES PLANS.  Choose from nearly 1,200 qualified doctors, optometrists or ophthalmologists.

LIFE INSURANCE AND ACCIDENTAL DEATH OR DISMEMBERMENT BENEFITS.  Western Growers Assurance Trust medical plans include Life and Accidental Death or Dismemberment benefits.
