Trade Practices & Commodity Services

As a benefit to regular shipping members of WG, for over 40 years the Trade Practices & Commodity Services department has assisted in collections on both slow pay and disputed sales contracts. As a direct result of this available service, more than two million dollars per annual calendar year are recovered for WG regular members.

In addition to always being involved with current industry issues and crises, the Trade Practices & Commodity Services department also represents members' interests in regard to packaging requirements and standardization regulations.

The Trade Practices & Commodity Services department can lend assistance in many other areas, such as PACA trust actions in bankruptcy, preparing product guaranty statements reviewing contracts, and answering questions concerning arrival problems on produce at contract destination. To provide consumers with a snapshot of fresh produce pricing, WG actively promotes its
Produce Price Index. PPI reflects the selling price for the farmer, the average cost charged at major retail stores in four regions, and the percentage spread between the two. The information is updated weekly with pricing information provided by a neutral third-party organization. PPI remains the most frequently viewed feature of our web site! In addition, the department represents the industry's interests on packaging and standardization regulations.
WG staff is also on hand to provide members with sales training seminars on a regional basis.
