Western Growers Assurance Trust
In 1957, Western Growers Assurance Trust (WGAT) was established to provide Western Growers members with plans, options and prices for healthcare benefits that were unobtainable from commercial insurance.
Today, WGAT is the largest provider of benefits for the agricultural industry. More than 200 WGAT employees provide customer services, claims processing, bilingual representation, billing and administrative services to members.
WGAT is a non-profit organization. While we are regulated under the Department of Labor and subject to the California Department of Insurance Regulations, we are self-administered by our members, for our members. That we are self-governed by our own members is the vital difference between us and all the commercial insurance carriers.
- We have no premium tax, no premium margin, and no commission-only sales people
- Our responsibility is to keep your costs down rather than trying to generate higher revenues
- Revenues are plowed back to the association for the benefit of our members
- Like you (and unlike commercial carriers), agriculture is our only business
As we’ve come to understand the requirements of our members, we made a powerful business decision to focus our direction and provide services to agricultural members in California, Arizona, and Texas.
