As of June 23, USDA has allocated $4 billion of $16 billion in direct payments as part of its Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). Just over $84 million has been distributed to the specialty crop industry, or 2.1%.

  • Livestock: $2 billion
  • Non-Specialty: $1 billion
  • Dairy: $895 million
  • Specialty: $84 million

For Western Growers member states – Arizona, California, Colorado and New Mexico – the specialty crop industry has received $36 million, or 0.9% of total allocations.

In an effort to grow critical relationships with the producers while also advancing employee knowledge of production agriculture, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is urging farmers, ranchers, and foresters to join the Conservation Agricultural Mentoring Program (CAMP).

CAMP matches skilled and experienced producers with an NRCS field employee. Once matched with a producer mentor, the employee will go out on the land with them 6-12 times per year for a period of 12-18 months – always during agreed upon times that are convenient for the producer.

Western Growers Board of Directors’ nomination ballots were emailed to all regular members for the two-year term through 2022. Our new, secure online voting platform replaces the old paper-ballot system and focuses on privacy, security and verifiability—all of which are paramount to hosting an honest election.

The nomination ballot is the first step in a two-part process. It lists prospective candidates from your district for inclusion on the official ballot. The official ballot will be emailed to you in September in order to vote to fill the allotted board seats.
