The most recent Farm Bill links conservation compliance to crop insurance.  If you currently utilize or market crop insurance, it is critical to understand the new requirements.  To help you do this, Western Growers will host a 90-minute webinar with experts from USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA), Farm Services Agency (FSA) and Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) who will explain the new requirements.

The application deadline for the new federal government strawberry crop insurance program is two weeks from today for Ventura, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.  This program now provides coverage for loss of revenue due to market fluctuations and has other significant improvements.

The new and improved strawberry crop insurance program has a sales closing date of September 30, 2014, for winter-planted strawberries this year.  That means that growers interested in purchasing the coverage must complete an application by that date in order to secure the coverage for their winter berries.  Western Growers Insurance Services (WGIS) has a number of qualified crop insurance sales people who can assist in getting the paperwork completed and submitted on time to get the coverage in place.
