Over the past few weeks, there have been delays in the processing of H-2A visa applicants through the State Department. This is due to a system-wide glitch related to software updates that were made and has impacted U.S. visa processing globally.

Western Growers has been working with congressional offices to encourage both quick resolution of this issue and to ask for assistance on expediting H-2A applications. While there may be temporary unavoidable delays in getting H-2A visas processed, there may be opportunity to address concerns on a case-by-case fashion.

The Vegas Strip will glow a little brighter this November 4th when Gary Pasquinelli is honored as this year’s Award of Honor recipient during the 89th Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.  The CEO and co-owner of Pasquinelli Produce Company -- and Western Growers’ Board member -- will be honored for a lifetime’s worth of work and achievements in the produce industry.

The agriculture industry suffered a great loss yesterday as company patriarch and co-chair, Robert Victor Antle, passed away on August 3.  According to The Produce News, Mr. Antle, a founding member of Tanimura & Antle, Inc., was surrounded by family at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital at the time of his death.

Considered an industry icon and pioneer, Mr. Antle changed the way produce is packaged and distributed by first developing a system to wrap vegetables in the field (1960). He also developed distribution centers for the introduction of wrapped lettuce and other source packaged fruits and vegetables (1965), among other initiatives.

One of his proudest accomplishments was the establishment of the Tanimura & Antle Family Memorial Library at California State University-Monterey Bay. This library serves as the centerpiece for the emerging campus and as the social and intellectual hub of the university. He felt strongly that this was the perfect vehicle for the families to give back to the community in a lasting way.
