A new report released by Western Growers and Produce Marketing Association (PMA) provides valuable insight into produce-specific food safety research findings presented at the Center for Produce Safety’s first-ever Research Symposium in June 2010. The report lays out key findings from – and real-world applications of – CPS’s first 11 research projects in practical and comprehensible terms.

IRVINE, Calif. (March 3, 2011) – U.S. and Mexico governments announced an agreement in principle today to provide a path to concluding the nearly two-year-long dispute of the Cross Border Trucking Pilot Program. Once the agreement is finalized, it will have a positive impact on the fresh produce industry—particularly producers of lettuce, pears, grapes, strawberries, apricots and almonds—as it could significantly reduce tariffs on produce shipped to Mexico. Since the dispute began growers in California and Arizona have seen sales to Mexico decline.

Western Growers has hired Mikel Pak as the communications manager in its headquarters office in Irvine. Pak brings more than five years of experience as a journalist and communications professional. She was a business newspaper reporter in North Carolina and also worked in the communications and media relations department at The Council of State Governments, a trade association reaching more than 20,000 state government leaders and others in all three branches of government.
