Statement of Dennis Nuxoll, Vice President of Federal Government Affairs for Western Growers, on the passage of the Emergency Drought Relief Act by the U.S. Senate:

“We are pleased that the drought bill has moved out of the Senate.  The effort by Senators Feinstein and Boxer to convince their Republican and Democratic colleagues of California’s pressing need for action has been commendable, and we applaud that significant effort.  We are also aware of Members of the California Republican House delegation to reach out to Senate Republicans to lend help and sincerely appreciate it.

AgSafe, an agriculture-based safety organization, has developed a food safety training course for produce harvesting. This class will be helpful to everyone in the produce business especially those involved in harvesting specialty crops.  It will give supervisors, foremen, crew leads and field workers basic knowledge regarding sanitation and hygiene principles that are often noted in food safety audits.

Membership in Western Growers is an investment in your future.  Thousands of members understand the value of belonging to the organization and all the benefits you get as a member.   As an added incentive, all memberships that are renewed by June 21 will be entered into a drawing for $500.

Members of the Western Growers’ Board of Directors who attended this week’s Washington, D.C. Board Meeting left town clear about one thing: despite what is being said in the media about immigration reform being dead, there still remains a window of opportunity for action this year. Led by Western Growers Chairman Bruce Taylor and CEO and President Tom Nassif, members of WG’s Board came to D.C. with messages for members of each party.
