On Monday, the Western Growers Board of Directors welcomed Vic Smith, President and CEO of JV Smith Companies, as the Chairman of Western Growers.  He succeeds Bruce Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Taylor Farms California.  Smith will take over his volunteer leadership responsibilities at the close of these week’s annual meeting. He was first elected to serve on the board in 2009.

Following a discovery by researchers, citrus growers may one day have an effective deterrent against the ever-growing spread of Asian citrus psyllid.  The invasive pest that can carry the disease huanglongbing (HLB), also known as citrus greening, causes trees, once infected, to decline in health and produce bitter, misshaped fruit until it dies.
