Nearly five months have passed since a horse named California Chrome made his bid to be the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed accomplished the feat in 1978. Chrome’s shot at horseracing immortality was dashed at the Belmont Stakes on June 7, but the colt that was bred, birthed (foaled), and initially raised at Harris Farms in Coalinga, still grabs the attention today of racing fans and non-racing fans alike.
