With winter storms slowing after the first of the year, the snowpack is slightly below normal say surveyors. The Department of Water Resources reported Tuesday that manual and electronic readings record the snowpack statewide at 93 percent of average for this time of year, totaling just more than half at 55 percent of a total normal year that ends April 1.

The DWR will continue to conduct surveys around the first of the month through May. Visit the DWR online for electronic snowpack readings.

A federal judge declined federal officials Wednesday additional time to update a plan that protect the threatened delta smelt and endangered salmon species in the Sacramento, San Joaquin Delta.  Environmental groups, like Earthjustice, were pleased with the ruling.  The Fresno Bee reported Wednesday on the ruling.
