Western Growers’ Tom Nassif is back in Washington D.C. this week for a series of meetings with members of the Agricultural Workforce Coalition (AWC) in preparation for the next round of immigration reform negotiations with the UFW led by Senator Dianne Feinstein and Senator Marco Rubio. The meeting with the Senators will take place tomorrow. Nassif is also meeting with the staff of House Speaker John Boehner.
Last week, in addition to participating in the negotiations with the Senate, Nassif also met with Representative Issa (R-CA), Gowdy (R-SC), Lankford (R-OK), and Labrador (R-ID). Rep. Gowdy is Chairman of the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration Subcommittee and was supportive of the principles agriculture is looking to see included in an immigration reform bill. While the process has recently been more focused on the Senate, these Members will be critical players as the effort ramps up in the House.
