Governor Jerry Brown has appointed DeeDee D’Adamo, former aide to U.S. Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-Merced) and a longtime member of the Air Resources Board, to the State Water Resources Control Board. WG strongly recommended D’Adamo’s appointment and helped build bipartisan legislative support for her as well. The Governor also announced that current board member Felicia Marcus will be elevated to chairman next month when that position becomes vacant. Marcus spoke to WG’s Board of Directors on Tuesday in Sacramento and described a thoughtful and fact-driven approach to the complex regulatory issues confronting agriculture. In sharing her prior experience as head of a municipal sanitation agency regulated by the very board she now chairs, Marcus told WG leaders that her approach to regulation has been shaped by on-the-ground realities that regulators too often dismiss or fail to understand.
“These appointments demonstrate a very pragmatic and balanced approach by the Governor,” said WG Senior Vice President Dave Puglia. “We look forward to working closely with the state water board as we confront complex issues such as nitrate in groundwater and improving water supply reliability through the Bay Delta Conservation Plan.”
The Governor also reappointed current members Tam Doduc and Frances Spivy-Weber, both of whom were originally appointed by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
