The FDA extended the comment period on the Produce Safety proposed rule and Preventative Controls proposed rule until Sept. 16, the agency announced Wednesday.

The comment period for both proposed rules was set to close on May 16th. The FDA granted the extension based on formal, written requests from many interested persons and groups, including a letter from industry partners, including Western Growers.
