Date: May 07, 2013

Deadlines are fast approaching for strawberries, raisins and forage seeds crop insurance coverage.   Growers can buy federal crop insurance for their 2014 crop through July 1 for strawberries in Fresno, Merced or Ventura counties or September 30th for Santa Barbara, Monterey or Santa Cruz counties.  After that date, insurance for your 2014 strawberries will not be available.

Raisins are insurable as well, and you have until July 31 to buy crop insurance for raisins.  The same date applies for forage seeds.

If your crop were to suffer a loss, do you have the right insurance in place?  Because of the complexity of crop insurance and the many technical requirements, nearly 80 percent of crop insurance policies are written incorrectly.  A quick review could identify the areas for improvement with your crop insurance, provide you with more comprehensive coverage and a better return on your insurance dollars.  Your business is your most valuable asset, so it is critical to make sure you are protected.  Western Growers Insurance Services partners with the largest crop insurance provider in the state of California.  Together, we can help your business evaluate your needs and ensure you have appropriate coverage.

Gretchen Rooney-Adan recently joined Western Growers as our crop insurance sales specialist.  Gretchen has many years of experience with crop insurance working for the FSA, several independent agencies as well as running her own agency.  She also operated a long-running productive farm with her family, so she has seen the benefits of crop insurance from both sides of the equation.

If you are interested in a complimentary policy review of your crop insurance, or if you would like to learn more about crop insurance for citrus or other crops, e-mail Gretchen or call her at (530) 305-7800.
