The Senate overcame a critical hurdle on Tuesday toward advancing the first immigration overhaul in a generation that would affect the nation's 11 million unauthorized immigrants, all U.S. employers and future legal immigrants.  A procedural vote to begin formal debate on the bill was approved 82-15 on a bipartisan vote.

Immigration reform has been Western Growers most pressing legislative issue for many years. The agricultural provisions in The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, S. 744, represent our best hope to secure a remedy that will legalize our existing workforce and provide a way to secure workers in the future.  The Senate began debate on this important legislation this week and will likely vote on passage this month.  Please reach out to your Senators in whatever states you have operations, and tell him or her of your support for this vital legislation. Ask your employees in those states to send messages to their Senators.

Send a letter today, or phone the U.S. Capitol switchboard (202) 224-3121 and ask for your Senator’s office.   Help in doing this is available on the WG website here.
