The WG Board met in Southern California this week.

Under the gavel of Chairman Steve Barnard, the members of the Western Growers Board of Directors gathered this week to discuss dozens of issues critical to the specialty crop industry, such as the status, strategies and prospects of passing immigration reform legislation in Congress; the water quality and supply challenges in California; the water situation in the Colorado River Basin; the status and implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act; past, present and future political and legislative activities and goals; transportation and trade developments; farm labor regulations and other business items.

The Board’s Executive Committee (Bruce Taylor, Vic Smith, Mark Teixeira, John Manfre, Mike Jarrard and Tom Deardorff) met on Tuesday to hear advocacy, financial, strategic and regulatory reports from WG’s President and CEO Tom Nassif and the members of his executive team.  Board committees met on Wednesday and the full Board heard and discussed the reports from those committees. Chairman Barnard closed the Board meeting today saying the financial health of Western Growers is the best he has ever seen.
