The USDA released statistics showing that California Farmers and Ranchers received record high revenues for their output in 2012. According to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service and Economic Research Service farmers and ranchers brought in $44.7 billion last year, a three percent increase over 2011’s $43.3 billion dollar level. The new record represents 11.3 percent of the U.S. total for 2012.
California pistachio growers had the largest percentage increase with over one billion dollars in receipts, a 27percent increase over 2011 revenues. The two other major nut crops, almonds and walnuts also topped the billion dollar threshold. In all, twelve California products surpassed the billion dollar mark in 2012, compared to eleven in 2011.
