IRVINE (March 19, 2010) - Western Growers President and CEO Tom Nassif issued the following statement today regarding the National Academy of Science’s (NAS) release of its first report on the Endangered Species Act-based restrictions on water pumping operations in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta:

Dept. of Interior Bumps Up CVP Water Allocations to 25 Percent For South Of The Delta Farmers

IRVINE (March 16, 2010) - Dept. of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced there will be more water allocated to project users north and south of the Delta due to additional precipitation and snowpack levels this year. Agriculture water service contractors south of the Delta will now receive 25 percent (up from 5 percent announced last month) of contract water. IRVINE (March 3, 2010) - Assemblyman Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) and Western Growers Foundation Administrator Briana Lewis will be delivering a $1,500 school garden grant, irrigation materials and educator resources to Billy Mitchell Elementary School on Friday, March 5, at 10:30 a.m. Principal Lucia Karaptian and first grade teacher Jennifer Briggs will accept the grant and resources at the school’s garden - “Mitchell World of Plants.” Following the presentation, Assemblyman Bradford and Lewis will join Briggs’ first grade class for a planting activity and lesson.
