The California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) has issued a warning to business owners about a scam involving labor-related postings.  A group calling itself the “Labor Compliance Office” is attempting to scam businesses into paying a $275 processing fee for labor-related postings which can be downloaded for free from the Department’s website.

The use of an official sounding name is an attempt to trick business owners into thinking they are being charged by a government agency.  There is no affiliation between the fake “Labor Compliance Office” and the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) which is a division of DIR.  In its notice, the DLSE also posted useful information about the protocol used by investigators when making site visits.
