As reported in Tuesday’s Spotlight, Western Growers and its members have been anticipating what the end of the government shutdown would mean to Arizona and California growers who are heavily dependent on H-2A workers to harvest winter vegetables.

The government shutdown is now over, but that is just the end of one problem and the beginning of another for our members.  Furloughed federal workers will be welcomed by a backlog of pending H-2A applications and a delay is inevitable if the Obama Administration does nothing to expedite the processing.

To highlight this issue in the media, WG issued a press release this morning.  We have already received numerous inquiries from media.  WG’s DC staff continues to work with congressional members and staff and administration officials on a solution to expedite the processing of the applications.
