This week, two California Republicans, Rep. Jeff Denham and Rep. David Valadao, co-sponsored the comprehensive immigration bill introduced by Democrats earlier this month, H.R. 15. That legislation includes the stakeholder agreement reached between the Ag Workforce Coalition (AWC) and worker groups.

Upon his decision to support the legislation, Rep. Valadao said, “I have been working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find common ground on the issue of immigration reform.  Recently, I have focused my efforts on joining with like-minded Republicans in organizing and demonstrating to Republican Leadership broad support within the Party to address immigration reform in the House by the end of the year.”

Rep. Denham after his decision to support H.R. 15 said, “I’m going to continue to encourage more and more Republicans to come on board.”

Both Rep. Denham and Valadao hope that supporting H.R. 15 will be another signal to House Republican leadership to move forward on immigration reform.  Leadership has still not decided on the path to bring immigration legislation to the floor.  Western Growers welcomes efforts to move the debate forward on immigration and continues to urge leadership and members to bring legislation to the floor for consideration.  Please thank Representatives Denham and Valadao for their efforts to move this debate forward in the House.
