A recent federal report on groundwater overdraft and land subsidence in the San Joaquin Valley generated renewed criticism of farmers’ water use. WG’s Tom Nassif responded with an op-ed published by the Fresno Bee calling for the restoration of adequate surface water supplies that would protect the Valley’s economic contributions to California while reversing groundwater depletion.
On the same day, The Bee also published an editorial which called for Governor Jerry Brown and President Obama to “act on the requests of California lawmakers” and declare a state of emergency for California related to the drought and water supply cutbacks.
