The California Environmental Protection Agency Air Resources Board (ARB) has issued a press release reminding owners and operators of facilities with non-residential refrigeration systems about an important registration and reporting deadline they must comply with in the new year.  Companies whose single largest system at an individual facility has a full charge of 200 pounds or more of refrigerants such as chloroflurocarbons (CFCs), hydro chloroflurocarbonds (HCFCs), or hydroflurocarbons (HFCs) are required to register their refrigeration system with the ARB by March 1, 2014.  The requirement targets “medium-sized” systems in an effort to minimize leaks of environmentally harmful refrigerants.

The online registration and reporting tool is known as the "Refrigerant Registration and Reporting System," or R3.  Additional information and training webinars on how to use the tool are available on the program’s website.
