AgSafe, an agriculture-based safety organization, has developed a food safety training course for produce harvesting. This class will be helpful to everyone in the produce business especially those involved in harvesting specialty crops.  It will give supervisors, foremen, crew leads and field workers basic knowledge regarding sanitation and hygiene principles that are often noted in food safety audits.  The sessions are open to anyone interested in attending.

The Agricultural Personnel Management Association (APMA), in conjunction with co-sponsoring organizations that includes Western Growers, began a series of courses last week for agricultural human resources professionals.  Graduates of the course will earn a prestigious Human Resource Professional in Agriculture (HRPA) designation.

Western Growers Vice President Karen Timmins helped kick-off the series in Oxnard this past week by leading a class on Managing Employee Compensation.  Karen will also lead a second class on September 10.

The latest food safety research findings and trends will be discussed at the Center for Produce Safety (CPS) fifth annual Produce Research Symposium in Newport Beach, California on June 24-25, 2014.  This event brings together scientists, industry and government. We are excited to host a webinar to provide an overview of the event.

Appearing at the Western Growers’ 89th Annual Meeting in Las Vegas this November will be Michelle Malkin and Rubin Navarrette, with an entertaining and informative, first-class examination of immigration reform.

These evenly matched combatants are authors, syndicated columnists, professional speakers, and experts on immigration. In fact, each has written and debated this topic for more than 20 years. Approaching the issue with nuance and clarity, they've fought every step of the way -- with critics on both the Right and the Left.
