The Western Growers Foundation (WGF) received two checks totaling $2,549.91 for its school garden grant program as a result of events held as part of the Yuma Lettuce Days Culinary Festival celebration this past March 1-2 at the Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park in Yuma, Arizona. Tanimura & Antle, a Western Growers’ member and Festival sponsor, partnered with WGF at the Pot-a-Plant booth where visitors made a voluntary donation to pot basil, peppers or tomatoes and took the potted seedlings home. Proceeds went to the WGF School garden grant program.
Additionally, all proceeds from Yuma’s Recipe Box Tasting event went to the Foundation. The popular Recipe Box Tasting event features an array of local restaurants that offer up their favorite tasty treats, including beer and wine samples.
The Yuma Lettuce Days Culinary Festival allows visitors the opportunity to celebrate and learn about the importance of Yuma's agricultural industry to the community. The Festival combines locally grown ingredients, interactive displays, exhibitors and vendors, and Yuma culture into a sophisticated, educational and entertaining weekend event. Visitors have the opportunity to sample a variety of locally grown freshly made food and beverages in an outdoor setting over the weekend.
