If you do not have enough farm workers to harvest your crops, Western Growers wants to know about it.  This is a critical time for immigration reform legislation in Congress and several Representatives have doubts about the need to for immigration reform and a new guest worker program.  Agriculture needs their support and their votes, so we need to keep demonstrating the crisis ag is facing by showing them and the news media, that crops will go un-harvested if we do not have enough workers.

Come join Congressman Darrell Issa, Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, at this year’s Annual Meeting PAC Lunch.  Congressman Issa will be headlining the PAC Lunch at Western Growers’ 88th Annual Meeting in Waikiki on Monday, November 11th at 12:30 p.m.  Reserve your seat now to hear one of Washington’s most outspoken defenders of freedom.

The much-anticipated “shutdown” of the federal government commenced earlier today after Congress was unable to resolve its differences on the Continuing Resolution budget bill.  Although 800,000 federal workers are facing furloughs, all but non-essential workers still reported to their jobs this morning.  While the length of the partial shutdown and the subsequent impact on government services remains to be seen, I wanted to provide a brief summary of how the shutdown will affect key federal programs that benefit the Arizona and California specialty crop industry.
