On Friday March 24, 2017, the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) registered the use of Sequoia™ insecticide as a Section 24(c) Special Local Need to control foxglove and lettuce aphids in leafy vegetables and Brassica vegetables. 

Sequoia is a member of a new class of chemistry, the sulfoximines, with excellent efficacy on sucking insects such as aphids, lygus, and certain scale insects. Additionally, there is no cross resistance to other chemistries such as organophosphates, pyrethroids, or neonicotinoids.

Western Growers worked with DPR and the registrant, Dow AgroSciences, to help obtain this Special Local Need registration in time for the 2017 use season in leafy and Brassica crops. While the full Section 3 label is still not registered in California, Western Growers is continuing to engage with DPR to help ensure this new technology is available for as wide an array of crops and at the same use rates in California as it is in other states.
