FDA Virtual Town Hall: New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint

On August 26, the Food and Beverage Issue Alliance and the Consumer Brands Association will host a town hall with Federal Drug Administration (FDA) Deputy Commissioner Frank Yiannas to discuss the New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint. Yiannas will provide details on the blueprint followed by a Q&A to answer any audience questions.

Western Growers is a member of the Food and Beverage Issue Alliance and all WG members can access the webinar for free when registering here and selecting the company name as “Western Growers Association.”

The New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint is a new approach to food safety, it describes core elements and  steps that FDA will take over the next ten years to usher in the New Era of Smarter Food Safety. Different produce industry perspectives on the blueprint were recently shared by the produce industry in a recent webinar hosted by Western Growers in partnership with United Fresh Produce Association and Produce Marketing Association, more details and a recording of this previous webinar can be accessed online.

During the upcoming webinar, the FDA is interested in hearing commentary from the industry and has asked for an initial list of industry questions on the blueprint, to ensure that the town hall discussion addresses the areas of most interest. Please send blueprint areas of interest and any initial blueprint questions that you would like addressed during the town hall to Sarah Brandmeier of Consumer Brands Association by tomorrow August 12.
