The application deadline for the new federal government strawberry crop insurance program is two weeks from today for Ventura, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.  This program now provides coverage for loss of revenue due to market fluctuations and has other significant improvements.

Ever wonder how Global Food Safety Initiative Audits (GFSI) work? Join us on Thursday, September 25th for a webinar that   provides three different perspectives of how the audits work. A GFSI representative will discuss current processes and recognition efforts related to government and industry audits. A buyer will explain the different approaches used to approve suppliers, including the use of GFSI audits. Finally, a producer will share experiences related to the use of GFSI and other audits.

Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed a package of three bills that establishes a new structure for managing groundwater in the state.  According to the Governor’s press release, AB 1739, SB 1168 and SB 1319 “create a framework for sustainable, local groundwater management for the first time in California history.”   Western Growers and numerous agriculture groups opposed the collective of bills and recently sent a letter to the governor asking for a veto of the package.
