Health Care Reform Workshops Kick Off; More to Come

The first of many Health Care Reform workshops began in Phoenix Thursday morning. There, Western Grower members had the opportunity to review PPACA requirements and speak with staff experts about how to prepare for the future. Western Growers will host additional workshops, designed for small employers (50 employees or less) in the future.

2013 California Wage & Benefit Survey

Western Growers is once again participating in the annual California Wage and Benefit Survey conducted by Farm Employers Labor Service (FELS®). The survey provides a market reference for growers making wage and benefit decisions for 15 on-the-farm jobs including: supervisors and foremen; mechanics; equipment operators and tractor drivers; irrigators and general laborers. We encourage all Western Growers Regular Members to participate since the more data that is included, the more reliable the survey results.

FDA Answers Your Questions: Produce Safety Rule Webinar

The FDA released the Produce Rule Jan. 4. Now, Western Growers members will have the opportunity to have questions answered regarding the mandatory federal standards for growing, harvesting, packing and holding produce for human consumption. The proposed rule is one of five proposed rulemakings that would lay the cornerstone of the prevention-based, modern food safety system.
