On November 19, 2014, the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board once again proposed amendments to CCR, Title 8, Section 3395 (heat illness prevention rule). The modifications are being considered as a result of public comments following a Public Hearing of the Standards Board in September that considered a prior proposal to modify the heat illness prevention rule.
On November 25, Western Growers is sponsoring a webinar focusing on Listeria and fresh produce. Though this sometimes deadly pathogen has not typically been associated with fresh produce, in the last few years two major outbreaks linking the two have changed how Listeriosis is viewed by regulators and the ag industry.
“Congress must reassert its constitutional authority to make laws and pass immigration reform legislation critical to the needs of our industry,” said Western Growers President and CEO, Tom Nassif, in a statement released to the press in anticipation of the executive action the president will take later today. The president intends to announce tonight, actions which will remove the threat of deportation for up to five million people. The president’s executive order will expand upon the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy that was implemented in 2012 to include parents of U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident children.
