Western Growers is once again participating in the annual California Wage and Benefit Survey conducted by Farm Employers Labor Service (FELS®). The survey provides a market reference for growers making wage and benefit decisions for 14 on-the-farm jobs including: supervisors and foremen; mechanics; equipment operators and tractor drivers; irrigators; and general laborers. This survey is used to develop a reference on California market conditions.

The workers’ compensation insurance industry is not making a profit, says an analyst of the American insurance industry, and is currently losing 8.5 cents on every dollar of premium it collects.  This means rates will continue to rise in order to move the industry to profitability.  Although the situation has improved, most carriers are trying to recover from several years of negative results.

In addition to its drought web page which was announced last week, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is teaming with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to hold information sessions for farmers on various drought resources that are available to them. According to a press release issued February 12, the sessions will be held throughout the state and will provide information on a variety of state and federal programs.   Information sessions begin on February 18th and are scheduled to run through February 26.
