The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Electronic Logging Device (ELD’s) rule is scheduled to go into effect on December 18, 2017, requiring commercial drivers to maintain hours-of-service logs electronically instead of using handwritten logs. Western Growers and other industry members have been working with the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration to secure regulatory relief from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) preventing the continued transportation of pre-June 1, 1991, mobile refrigeration units.

For those members involved in the transportation of mobile refrigeration units, the following action taken by the DOT will allow the continued use of equipment that has been in service prior to June 1, 1991.
