January 2013 - New Seed Variety Issue

On January 1, 2013, the State Compensation Fund of Arizona (SCF) changed from a state company to an independent insurance company; owned by its policyholders, operated to make a profit and has no state obligation to guarantee its results.

What does this mean for you?

SCF initiated a number of recent changes that will affect its customers and Arizona businesses.  For example, customers with good results were placed in “premier” or “preferred” tiers and pay less premium than customers with poor results.  SCF also has been more selective of risks, choosing to insure those with fewer losses and injuries, while rejecting companies that have poor results.  Finally, SCF discontinued dividend programs and discounts it had supported for years.  All of these efforts were focused on making SCF more profitable so it could compete with other workers’ compensation carriers in Arizona.

Since SCF is the largest provider of workers’ compensation coverage in Arizona, these actions have made it more difficult for companies to get competitive workers’ compensation coverage.  Western Growers Insurance Services recommends the following to ensure you obtain coverage at the most competitive rate:

1.  Work with your insurance representative to secure quotes from several viable companies rather than sticking with one carrier.

2.  Be patient and persistent — it may be worth thousands of dollars to spend more time looking for the right workers’ compensation provider.

3.  Be willing to provide more information to your insurance representative.  This will help you secure competitive quotes from a larger number of insurance carriers.

As always, Western Growers Insurance Services will provide you with the best options available for your workers’ compensation needs.  We are proud to provide quality service to you for your workers’ compensation coverage and look forward to continuing to serve your needs in the coming year.  You can count on WGIS to provide the same type of service on our other insurance solutions as well.
