With the passage of the Affordable Care Act, many companies are consumed with making sure their health care insurance is up to date and in compliance with the law.

That’s all well and good and important but that effort may be pushing some of your other insurance needs to the back burner.  That doesn’t have to be the case as Western Growers Insurance Service operates as a full-service agency that can handle all of your company’s needs from health insurance to crop insurance to kidnap & ransom coverage…and everything in between, including personal, auto and home insurance.  And WGIS has many experts who can work on many different products simultaneously.

First and foremost, we offer a consultative service that can examine the many insurance policies that a grower, shipper or packer has in place and make recommendations.  In all the years that we have been offering consultation, I can only recall one time when we could not improve the member’s insurance situation.  But our consultative service is not designed to create more business for us, but rather to be a service for Western Growers members.  We do typically find issues when we examine a member’s insurance portfolio, but the goal is always to improve your profitability by accurately managing your insurance risk.  There is virtually always an opportunity, from a business standpoint, to improve what you have at a better cost.

And that is largely true because we approach the business from a position of knowledge.  We know agriculture.  We know the business and how firms operate from an agricultural business perspective.  We ask the right questions and can help steer you to the type of coverage you need and away from coverage you don’t need.  For example, Kidnap & Ransom insurance is a relatively obscure product that doesn’t have a lot of utility in many business sectors.  Insurance providers can easily overlook it.  But in production agriculture, it’s a function of the way our industry operates that many growers and shippers have operations in Mexico and other foreign countires in the general course of their business.  In light of the fact that U.S. citizens have been the target of kidnap for ransom rings in various Mexican states, and given that it tends to be a relatively inexpensive risk to insure for, kidnap & ransom insurance should be considered by many firms.

Health insurance is, of course, a core product in our offerings.  Our experts have been working tirelessly for the past four years analyzing the law and marrying it to the needs and obligations of our members.  We have many different options for companies to consider and many experts that can walk you through the process.  We offer many different plans through Western Growers Assurance Trust, which has been operating in the agricultural space for more than 50 years.  We have been fighting for the rights of seasonal employers and have developed options that work.  Whether you are new to the health insurance game or have been providing coverage for your employees for decades, we are here to advise you of your rights, options and obligations.

And we devote that same attention for insurance products that fall under the Property & Casualty classification.  We offer many different commercial lines products including crop insurance, product liability, business liability, product recall and workers’ compensation insurance, to just name a few.

In each of these cases, we tailor our insurance products to fit needs specific to your business.  Agriculture is different than other businesses and we know that.  The recall of a fresh produce item, for example, is different than that for a defective windshield wiper, and the insurance policy has to take into account those differences.  We take the same care with all of our insurance products.

And that includes personal lines.  As a full service agency we can write insurance for automobile and home coverage, rental properties and other personal insurance policies on an individual basis.  We do so for many of our members and their employees as well as the employees of Western Growers.  We approach that business in the same manner as we look at commercial lines, which is to provide a service for our members.

Part of the overall service that Western Growers Insurance Services provides to its membership is our robust educational effort.  We conduct many different trainings in areas such as mitigating claims, first aid training, forklift operation and hand washing.  The goal is to create a better informed and educated workforce, which should ultimately reduce claims and insurance costs.

Ultimately, Western Growers Insurance Services wants to be your insurance partner, providing you added value in that sector of your business or life.  Give us a call!
