Those sentiments expressed by Western Growers Board Member and The Nunes Company President Thomas P. Nunes Jr. seemed to be fairly representative of the view held by a number of grower-shippers that operate primarily in the California and Arizona vegetable industry. And a survey of others in other fresh fruit and vegetable sectors indicated that 2009 was fairly good across the board, with cautious optimism the approach for 2010.

“From our perspective in the business of lending money, markets in general are getting better for agriculture and most ag sectors are doing pretty well,” said Curt Covington, senior vice president and agricultural division manager for the Bank of the West, Fresno, Calif.
