It is getting increasingly difficult to write workers’ compensation insurance for agricultural firms in both California and Arizona as there are fewer carriers operating in that market.  The risk is high and agriculture has not been a highly profitable arena so we have seen several companies exit the marketplace and those that are still in are less aggressive than ever before.  With fewer companies competing for your business, that means you have fewer options.

On December 24, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the proposed rule: “Focused Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration” (Food Defense Rule), which would require domestic and foreign food registered facilities to have a written food defense plan.

Imagine a groundwater basin that has a problem.  When groundwater users extract more water each year than nature replenishes, the basin is in overdraft.  Whether there is no present groundwater management, or there is some form of management—like a local water district or an AB 3030 plan—the problem persists.

By the time you read this, I fervently hope the skies have poured Biblical proportions of rain and snow on the mountains and valleys of California and Arizona, filling reservoirs and aquifers in amounts sufficient for our needs.  This, I have prayed for since warnings of severe drought began to be made in earnest last December.
