Sacramento, Calif. (October 18, 2013) – Citing Doug Ose’s long commitment to the agricultural community, Western Growers has announced its endorsement of Ose for California’s 7th Congressional District.
“California family farmers have every confidence in Doug Ose’s proven abilities as a solutions-oriented leader,” said Western Growers CEO Tom Nassif. “Doug has always placed the interests of his community first, along with those of the family farmers that support thousands of local jobs and provide families a healthy source of food everyday.”
Founded in 1926, Western Growers represents family farmers in the Western United States, including California. Its members provide half of the nation’s fruits and vegetables, and a third of its organic fresh produce. The Association does not traditionally make endorsements in U.S. House of Representatives contests, but is proud to endorse Doug Ose. With an in-house team of Washington, DC-based advocates, Western Growers has been a leading voice in the nation’s capital on many issues such as immigration reform, water supply relief for farmers, more sensible regulatory policies, international trade and federal investment to protect and enhance the competitiveness of America’s fresh produce industry, Noting that Sacramento County agriculture continues to play a vital role by contributing over $400 million a year to the state’s agricultural economy, Ose said, “Our region is recognized worldwide for growing and producing the finest foods. I am pleased to have the support of family farmers who contribute greatly to the economic interests of the Sacramento Valley.”
As a lifelong Sacramento resident, Ose was a leading voice on the House Agricultural Committee, where he fought to protect our nation’s family farmers and ranchers before honoring a self-imposed term limit, a promise few members of Congress kept. While in Congress, Ose represented 70 percent of today’s 7th Congressional District.
