The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Electronic Logging Device (ELD’s) rule is scheduled to go into effect on December 18, 2017, requiring commercial drivers to maintain hours-of-service logs electronically instead of using handwritten logs. However, in recent days, FMCSA has announced a 90-day waiver from the ELD requirement for agriculture, pending the publication of formal guidance to the agricultural industry in the Federal Register.

Yesterday, Western Growers and C.H. Robinson hosted a Giving Day to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Western Growers Transportation Program. The national event used C.H. Robinson’s Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, hub and transportation system to collect and distribute 240,000 pounds of produce donations made by Western Growers’ members to Feeding America locations across the country.

Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization, providing food to 46 million low-income Americans every year.

Along with C.H. Robinson, our strategic partners in Western Growers Transportation Program, two recent videos have been produced that highlight the benefits from members’ use of the program. The videos, featuring The Wonderful Company and Dulcinea, function as testimonials to the reliability of the program and are being featured on both C.H. Robinson’s and WGs’ web and social media pages.

C.H. Robinson (CHR), our partners in Western Growers Transportation Program, issued a notice to customers today reminding them that CHR stands ready to help with transportation contingency planning due to the closure of Interstate 10 near the California/Arizona border. The road and a bridge were washed out as a result of heavy rains that occurred on Sunday closing the portion of highway located near Desert Center in California, about 50 miles from the Arizona border and 170 miles from Los Angeles.
