Dave Evans is a futurist—a passionate evangelist who shares his vision of technology’s evolution in anticipation of the coming decades. His “day job” is CTO and co-founder of Stringify, a startup focused on transforming the Internet of Everything (IoE).
Prior to starting Stringify, Dave served as Chief Futurist for Cisco. In this role, Evans was a key driver behind the company’s transformational IoE thought leadership (and coined the term). He assessed technology’s future impact on Cisco customers, businesses, and industries, with the goal of evoking inspiration when it comes to the practical application of technological advances.
Evans attributes his success as a prognosticator to his technology “street smarts.” He has held every job a technology professional can hold, from crawling over ceiling tiles with computer cables, to writing code for first-generation ecommerce systems, to running massive ERP deployments and managing cross-functional corporate IT teams.
Evans has grown accustomed to seeing his technology predictions become reality. When he joined Cisco as employee number 398 in 1990, he was charged with deploying the company’s first-ever web server. In his mind’s eye, however, Evans was envisioning a future of profound applications for web and network technologies. It wasn’t long before he was architecting and building these advanced solutions, bringing his ideas into the present while always anticipating the “Next Big Thing.”
An expert on emerging technologies, Evans holds a number of patents for RFID, Connected Car, virtual people, and mobile phone technologies. His visionary acumen has garnered global attention on topics such as the “Internet of Everything” and “The Net Effect,” where he outlines IoE’s transformational impact and the role of the network. He has been designated by LinkedIn as one of the 150 Most Influential Thought Leaders in the world, and his views have been shared in Forbes Magazine, San Jose Mercury News, New York Times, Politico, TechCrunch, CNN, MSNBC, and others, as well as through an active social media presence.
Previous to him serving as its Chief Futurist, Evans was with Cisco’s Information Technology (IT) organization, where he managed the global architecture team, focusing on IP telephony, unified messaging, wireless, networked home, and Internet-related technologies.
Prior to Cisco, Evans held various IT positions at both Advanced Micro Devices and MMI. He pursued computer science and computer engineering at San Jose State University in California. Evans can be reached on Twitter at, @DavetheFuturist or via LinkedIn.
