Ken Gilliland has an Associate Degree in Transportation from Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Los Angeles. Prior to joining Western Growers in April 1977, Ken worked for Southern Pacific Transportation Company handling rail pricing for a variety of commodities, including fresh produce.
Initial duties at Western Growers focused on rail rate proposals, and negotiating transportation claims on behalf of individual members. Responsibilities have since expanded to all areas of domestic and international transportation, including the WG Transportation Program, and international trade activities. International activities range from the generic promotion of WG member fresh vegetables in several foreign countries, market research, tariff and non-tariff barrier issues on behalf of the association, and individual member international trade issues.
