IRVINE (October 14, 2010) - State Senator Jeff Denham has been endorsed by Western Growers Board of Directors in his campaign to succeed Rep. George Radanovich (R-19th Congressional District), who is retiring. Denham has long ties to the fresh produce industry and his family’s container company, Denham Plastics, is a Western Growers member.
“Jeff Denham comes from the fresh produce industry and knows how federal policies can both help and harm farmers and the jobs they sustain,” said Western Growers President and CEO Tom Nassif. “The fresh produce industry has made great strides in recent years by working with members of both parties in Congress to ensure that we are not left out of federal farm policies. At the same time, we continue to seek more leaders from both parties who will push for immigration reform such as AgJOBS that addresses agriculture’s need for a reliable and properly regulated workforce. On these and other issues such as food safety and environmental regulation, we believe Jeff Denham will be a consistent voice for California’s farmers.”
Denham is completing his final year in the state Senate, where he represented the 12th Senate District, stretching from Salinas to Merced.
Western Growers is an agricultural trade association whose members from Arizona and California grow, pack and ship ninety percent of the fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables grown in California and seventy five percent of those commodities in Arizona. This totals about half of the nation’s fresh produce.
