You may call him The Godfather, but he’s not Marlon Brando. You could say he’s a king, but he’s not Elvis Presley. And you could certainly call him your “precious,” but he is definitely not Gollum from “The Lord of the Rings.”
John Pinette is a lot of things, most notably: funny. The Boston-born comedian will headline the Award Dinner this year at Western Growers Annual meeting Nov. 10 through 13 in Hawai’i. The funny man got his big break in 1991 when he was asked to tour with Frank Sinatra – and he’s been going nonstop since then. From films such as "Duets," starring Gwenyth Paltrow; "Dear God," starring Greg Kinnear; "Junior," starring Arnold Schwarzeneger; and "The Punisher," starring John Travolta, to the hit Broadway musical “Hairspray,” Pinette has cut his chops with the best of the best. Pinette also has a very impressive small screen resume including “Seinfeld,” “The Tonight Show” as well as successful DVDs and CDs of his stand-up performances.
Pinette recently toured Southern California and performed at the Irvine Improv, where several members of Western Growers had a chance to take in his show. Karen Timmins, WG’s vice president of human resources, was one of those lucky few who previewed Pinette – making sure he’ll be the perfect fit for the 88th Annual Meeting.
“John Pinette has a unique and brilliant comic style; his observations of declining customer service, shopping for typical household (or personal) products and vacationing in Hawaii had me crying and gasping for air,” Timmins said. “Also, he says ‘America’s farmers are the world’s unsung heroes’ - Obviously, a very bright man and a whole lot of fun to watch.”
