According to the CalOSHA Reporter, there were 250 fewer on-site inspections conducted in 2012 than in 2011.  However, more citations for serious violations were issued.  The data from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health recently reported a 4 percent rise in total violations (15,148) against employers last year.  Alleged serious violations increased 22 percent.  Agriculture, construction, services and manufacturing accounted for the most inspections and violations with manufacturing having the highest rate alleged as “serious.”  There were 1,115 on-site inspections of agricultural operations throughout California in 2012; 15 percent of those were alleged to be serious.
