This week, the Ag Workforce Coalition (AWC), in conjunction with the Partnership for a New American Economy (PNAE), launched the #ifarmimmigration campaign. The goal of this effort is to maximize the pro-immigration reform message and includes outreach to Congressional offices, grassroots and communications efforts.
In a press release announcing the launch of this campaign, Western Growers President and CEO, Tom Nassif said, "With the recent release of Republican immigration standards and the highlighting of agriculture's unique need for action, it is clear that the time for Congress to reform our broken immigration system has arrived. Working together with other industries, the faith community, and other reform minded leaders is critical to achieving our shared goals."
Yesterday, the #ifarmimmigration effort conducted a briefing on Capitol Hill so that Congressional leaders could hear directly from agriculture producers about the need to reform our immigration laws. Chief Strategy Officer & General Counsel Brad Johnston, from Western Growers member, Peri & Sons, described some of the challenges growers currently face in using the H-2A program.
