Proposition 1, the $7.5 billion California water bond on the statewide ballot has nearly unanimous support from newspaper editorial boards. California’s largest newspapers have all issued endorsements of the YES on Prop 1 campaign, including the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the U-T San Diego, the Sacramento Bee, the San Jose Mercury News and the Orange County Register.
Governor Jerry Brown has thrown his full political weight behind the measure. The campaign has already released three TV ads that not only promote Proposition 1, but also Proposition 2, a proposed constitutional amendment that creates a state rainy day fund. Western Growers supports both Propositions 1 and 2 and is encouraging members to contribute to the campaign. Western Growers made a direct contribution of $250,000 and is seeking to match that amount from member contributions.
