CDFA Announces $3.6 Million in SWEEP Grants to Farmers

Yesterday, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Department announced it is awarding farmers $3.6 million in State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program (SWEEP) grants for 93 different projects.  As previously reported in Spotlight, CDFA announced it was accepting applications for SWEEP funds which provide grants to farmers for implementing on-farm water irrigation systems that reduce water and energy use.

SWEEP authorizes CDFA to distribute up to $10 million for eligible projects.  The program was part of emergency drought legislation signed into law earlier this year.

A second solicitation of SWEEP proposals – also previously reported in Spotlight -- is already underway, with grant awards up to $150,000 per project. More information on the next round, including information on how to complete an application, can be found by visiting the program webpage;
