Tailored Recall Insurance Solution Protects Against Hep A Outbreaks

A recent hepatitis A outbreak claimed nearly 20 lives in California. Western Growers wants to assure members that there are insurance solutions that can protect food and ag-related businesses when a contamination event occurs. Hepatitis A—which can be transmitted by contaminated food or from person to person, among other ways—can result in tremendous financial loss for even the most conscientious organizations.

In an event where hepatitis A is communally transmitted through food, Western Growers Contaminated Product Program (CPP) will help members mitigate the detrimental effects of a recall. The CPP is part of the newly launched WESTERN GROWERS SHIELD® and covers clients through two comprehensive policies:

  • Accidental Contamination/First-Party Policy: Covers the insured party’s direct losses and costs, such as the value of inventory destroyed, recall costs associated with locating and retrieving the product, brand rehabilitation, loss of profits suffered by the insured, etc.
  • Product Liability/Third-Party Coverage: Protects the insured against claims filed by the insured’s customers, its customers’ customers or other third parties for damage caused.
